What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a process through which positive suggestions are made to the subconscious mind in order to change negative thoughts, emotions or behaviour. Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis within a therapeutic setting.
The level of relaxation or "trance" required to undergo hypnosis is the same as when you are lost in thought day-dreaming, or when absorbed in a piece of music or a good book. You remain fully awake at all times and are able to converse should you want to - you just feel pleasantly relaxed and focused. It is when we are in this relaxed state, or "altered state of awareness" that our subconscious mind is able to come to the fore, and we are able to have direct contact with it.
It is at this point that positive suggestions can be made to the subconscious, which can then be accepted and utilized by the mind. It is perfectly possible to do self-hypnosis, and this can be taught within sessions.
It is not possible to hypnotise someone to do anything against their will - the subconscious mind will reject it immediately.
The British Medical Association has accepted Hypnotherapy as a form of medical treatment since 1955.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a modern, solution-focused, approach to hypnotherapy, which utilises the very latest techniques from the world of psychology. It combines gentle levels of hypnosis with the counselling and therapeutic skills from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, as well as incorporating elements from Evolutionary and Positive Psychology.
This unique combination produces a gentle, yet completely effective form of brief therapy. As results are often achieved surprisingly quickly, only a handful of sessions are required for most issues, with some problems only needing 1 or 2 sessions to achieve the desired results.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy uses completely natural, every-day states of relaxation or "trance" (such as when we are day-dreaming, or on automatic pilot) to help build the unconscious patterns of the mind that enables clients to overcome their problem. It also works to restructure the unconscious mind to enable clients to achieve more of whatever it is they want, whether it's confidence, relaxation, motivation, weight loss, health, or happiness. |
